Svartkonstboken i Nordiska museet.
En svartkonstbok innehåller oftast en samling av trollformler och recept så att ägaren med hjälp av magi kan frammana saker man vill ha, eller personer man åtrår. Det kan till exempel gälla en skatt med pengar, tur i kärlek, skydd mot onda andar, spöken eller bot mot sjukdomar.
Enligt tradition så kan ägaren till en svartkonstbok som hinner avlida innan denne hunnit göra sig av med boken aldrig få ro i sin själ. Detta är en anledning till att det finns så få svartkonstböcker kvar idag, de flesta har helt enkelt bränts upp.
Denna svartkonstbok består av lösa blad med antecknade formler. På första bladet är skrivet ‘Negromänliska Saker författade i Trycket af Upgifvaren år 1715 öfversatte Från Ebreiska o Grekiska och Latin på Götiskan – 1410 – och sist på Swenska utskrifwit’. Texten innehåller beskrivning på olika sätt att hindra ‘Tiufvahand och Elldebrand’, att övervinna sina fiender, att komma i gunst hos sin husbonde, ‘när en Bössa intet vil döda’ etc.

A book of the black arts usually contains a collection of spells and recipes that the owner can use for magic purposes, to conjure up things he or she wants. For example, it can apply to a treasure of money, luck in love, protection against evil spirits, ghosts or a cure for diseases.
According to tradition, the owner of a black art book who dies before he has time to get rid of the book can never find peace in his soul. This is one reason why there are so few black art books left today, most have simply been burned.
This black art book consists of loose sheets with hand written formulas. The text on the first sheet can loosely be translated as “Necromantic things written in print by the author in 1715 translated from Hebrew and Greek and Latin to Gothic – 1410 – and finally in the Swedish edition’. The text contains descriptions of various ways to prevent ‘Tiufvahand and Elldebrand’, to overcome their enemies, to gain favor with their master, ‘when a gun does not want to kill’, etc.
