Beskyddande käppar och pinnars magi

Utmed äldre vägar och stigar kan man hitta offerkast och stötteberg, platser där människor som passerat förbi kastat, ”offrat” en sten eller pinnar så det uppstått ett röse eller rishög eller ställt pinnar som stöttor mot berget. Traditionen är ofta kopplad till att någon här omkommit genom olyckshändelse eller blivit mördad.  Man kastade för att hedra den döde, själv undgå olycka eller risken att möta vålnaden efter den döde, bli gastkramad.

Stötteberg kan ha liknande bakgrund som offerkasten. Till skydd mot onda makter reste de vägfarande en stav eller gren mot berget för att hindra detta att falla över dem. 

Så har det satts upp stöttor mot Stöberget på vägen ut mot Kållandsö, i höjd med gården Råsdalen i Sunnersberg, för att underlätta passagen.

The rituals of protective canes and sticks and offerkast

Along older roads and paths, you can find ritual placements of canes, sticks and stones. These are called offerkast (sacrifical throw) and Stötteberg (mountain supporter). The sites of offerkast are places where people who have passed by have thrown – “sacrificed” –  a stone or sticks so that a heap or pile of twigs and sticks has arisen or when sticks have been placed as supports against the mountain side. The tradition is often connected to the fact that an individual died in an accident or was murdered in this particular spot. People threw sticks or stones to honor the dead, to avoid misfortune for themselves or the risk of encountering the ghost of the dead, or being haunted by these (gastkramad).

Stötteberg may have a similar background to offerkast. For protection against evil forces, travelers raised a staff or branch against the mountain to prevent it from falling on them.

For example, supporting canes have been set up towards Stöberget on the way out towards Kållandsö in Sunnersberg, to facilitate the passage.
